Singita Botswana launches in the Okavango Delta in 2026 with the brand new Singita Elela. Okavango Delta is a landscape sculpted by ancient, winding waterways that swell with the rains and retreat with the changing seasons, dotted with islands teeming with countless species, and a constantly evolving mosaic of lagoons, grasslands and marshes. Singita Botswana guests enjoy access to the largest private concession on the Okavango Delta: Formerly the Abu Concession, bordering the Jao Camp concession renowned for birding and rare antelope experiences, the reserve is known for its canoeing and water-based safari experiences. An especially seasonal area, land game drives are typically only possible in select seasons given its location in Okavango Delta.
Singita Elela has just entered construction, set to open in 2026. As such, the style of camp and number of rooms are yet to be realized. Elela – meaning ‘to flow’ in Setswana – will celebrate the Delta’s essence of eternal cycles and continuity. A new lodge concept will echo this with an ease embedded into the design and experience it offers, which will place the spirit of this wonder-filled oasis at its centre.
Previously home of the Original Elephant safari experience in Africa, owned by Paul Allen, Abu Camp closed off along with the elephant back safaris once offered. The private 400,000 acre Abu concession in the Okavango Delta, featured 6 basic tents with a viewing deck overlooking the lagoon. The Elephant herd at Abu Camp was released to the wild at the close of the elephant safari program.

History of the Abu Concession: Never considered a Big Cat or big game destination, the Abu Concession was the largest Okavango Delta experience for water-based safaris and canoeing for birding and rare antelope viewing. In addition to regular day and night game drives and guided canoeing on the delta, fishing and birding safaris are offered. Activities at the concession were centered around antelope species and birding. A few species of game seen at the concession include Lechwe, Impala, Zebra, Tsessebe, Buffalo, Giraffe and Hyena.
